It takes 200 muscles to walk.

It takes 43 muscles to smile.

It takes 8 muscles to chew a piece of gum.

But it takes almost no muscles to read about the Red Gloves campaign.

The Red Gloves campaign is a photographic project with the purpose of raising awareness about Muscular Dystrophy. Currently there are over 50,000 Canadians who have it yet many still don't know what it is. Muscular Dystrophy is a term that describes a number of different neuromuscular disorders. It's a genetic disease that causes progressive weakening of the voluntary muscles. Walking, talking, moving, and breathing are all controlled by muscles and over time, individuals with Muscular Dystrophy may lose the ability to do some or all of these things. Some forms of Muscular Dystrophy are even fatal. There is still no cure.
